Cisco Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) transceivers are devices that allow you to connect different types of networking equipment, such as routers, switches, and servers, to various types of optical fibre and copper cabling. There are several different types of SFPs available, each with its own technical uses:
- SFP-1000BASE-T: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to Category 5 or higher twisted-pair copper cabling. It supports data rates of up to 1 Gbps and is compatible with both 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet standards.
- SFP-1000BASE-SX: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to multimode optical fibre cabling. It supports data rates of up to 1 Gbps and is compatible with the 1000BASE-SX Ethernet standard.
- SFP-1000BASE-LX/LH: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to single-mode optical fibre cabling. It supports data rates of up to 1 Gbps and is compatible with the 1000BASE-LX and 1000BASE-LH Ethernet standards.
- SFP-1000BASE-ZX: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to single-mode optical fibre cabling. It supports data rates of up to 1 Gbps and is compatible with the 1000BASE-ZX Ethernet standard.
- SFP-10GBASE-SR-X: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to multimode optical fibre cabling. It supports data rates of up to 10 Gbps and is compatible with the 10GBASE-SR Ethernet standard.
- SFP-10GBASE-LR-X: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to single-mode optical fibre cabling. It supports data rates of up to 10 Gbps and is compatible with the 10GBASE-LR Ethernet standard.
- SFP-10GBASE-ER: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to single-mode optical fibre cabling. It supports data rates of up to 10 Gbps and is compatible with the 10GBASE-ER Ethernet standard.
- SFP-10GBASE-ZR: This SFP transceiver is used to connect equipment to single-mode optical fibre cabling. It supports data rates of up to 10 Gbps and is compatible with the 10GBASE-ZR Ethernet standard.
These are a few examples of cisco SFPs and their technical uses, there are other types as well, depending on the distance, wavelength, and data rate needed. It's important to match the SFP with the correct type of cabling and networking equipment to ensure optimal performance.
